What is the address and where should I park?
📍 Your training takes place at the Marines de Cogolin, a beautiful and easily accessible marina in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.
🚗 You can use the private port parking area, which is located directly at the entrance of the marina and is equipped with a barrier gate.
When you arrive, simply let them know that you have a lesson booked with our centre that day and the gate will be opened for you.
Do I need previous experience to attend the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course?
No, previous experience is not required to attend the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course. The course is suitable for All Levels, including beginners. The RYA Powerboat Level 1 course can be a useful introduction, but it is not mandatory before joining Level 2.
For Experienced Boaters, a Skill Assessment can be arranged in half a day, allowing you to validate your existing knowledge and skills according to RYA requirements.
What do I need to bring for my course?
🎒 We suggest bringing sunscreen, a hat, a water bottle, and comfortable non-slip shoes with white soles.
Depending on the weather, you may also want to bring a warm jacket or a light rain jacket.
Just bring your smile and your energy, we will provide the rest.
How old do I need to be to take a course?
👤 Participants can take the helm under the supervision of an RYA instructor from the age of 14. This allows younger participants to learn boat handling skills in a safe and controlled environment.
However, the minimum age to obtain the official RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate is 16 years old, in accordance with French regulations.
Do I need to take a theory exam/code test to obtain the qualification?
📖 No, there is no theory exam or code test required to obtain the RYA Powerboat Level 2 qualification.
The course includes both theoretical knowledge and practical training, with continuous assessment by an RYA instructor throughout the course.
Will you cancel for wind or weather?
⛈️ We may need to reschedule or cancel courses in case of strong winds or unsafe weather conditions.
If weather conditions are considered unsafe for small craft navigation (generally around 20+ knots of wind), we reserve the right to postpone the course to another date.
In the event of lightning or severe weather, we will not go out on the water.
Your safety is always our highest priority, and we will do our best to inform you and reschedule as early as possible.
How long does the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course last?
The RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is a 2-day practical and theoretical training course.
⚠️ For experienced boaters, a Skill Assessment can be arranged in half a day to validate existing knowledge and skills according to RYA requirements.
How can I obtain the certificate if I already have boating experience?
⛵ If you already have boating experience, you can choose a Skill Assessment session with an RYA instructor.
Before the assessment, you will receive a short quiz to complete. If some areas need improvement, we can review them together and you will have the opportunity to complete it again at the end of the day.
You can also choose a Powerboat Coaching Session before your Skill Assessment to refresh your skills and practise specific manoeuvres.
The manoeuvres assessed during the Skill Assessment are clearly described on our website, so there are no surprises. The aim is to validate your existing knowledge and practical skills according to RYA requirements.
Do I need a medical certificate?
🩺 No, a medical certificate is not required to attend the RYA Powerboat courses.
However, participants must complete a medical declaration confirming that they are fit and able to safely take part in the course, in accordance with RYA requirements.
Is it possible to book a private course?
👥 Yes, a private (exclusive) course option is available.
The price is €1,650 for up to 3 participants, with the possibility to choose your own dates (non-consecutive days possible).
When and how will I receive my RYA certification?
🏅Your RYA certificate is issued at the end of the course, once the training has been successfully completed.
You do not need to come back to collect it or wait for it to arrive by post. The certificate will be provided directly by the centre !
Is the ICC application free?
Yes, the ICC application is Free when completed online through the RYA website.
After completing your course with Tropez Sea Academy, you will have an RYA account created, allowing you to submit your ICC application online.
A fast-track delivery option is available if required. Otherwise, please allow approximately 21 working days for processing.
How can I book a course with your centre?

You can also download the booking documents from our website (see the “How to Book Your Course” section at the bottom of the page), complete them, and either send them by email or drop them off in our centre’s mailbox.
Is the training theoretical or practical?
⚓ The RYA Powerboat courses are mainly practical, with approximately 75% of the training taking place on the water.
Theoretical knowledge is covered throughout the course and directly applied during practical sessions at sea, helping participants develop safe and confident boat handling skills.
